What I liked

The wards /public areas are usually quite clean and general staff helpful and civil, particularly the volunteers who are so caring. There are pockets of staff who are there for the right reasons but they are the ones who struggle because of others less caring.

What could be improved

The medical staff need to learn to listen, to be caring and compassionate. They also need to learn that if an appointment is for 1.30pm they do not have the right to simply move it to the end of the list! Doctors and consultants and sadly some nursing staff need to remember why they are working in the NHS other than for the money.

Consultants and registrars should remember that what they think someone should feel, is just their personal opinion, we are not there to deal with their personal opinion. Which is Not necessarily what the patient feels. Just because something doesnt affect their lives doesnt mean it is trivial! Everyone copes and deals with life and its affects in different ways, what is important to one may not matter to another - it is the individual quality of life that should be taken into account. They are also very discriminating against both age and health and personal circumstances. They are at times arrogantly rude when they know that if what they say is challenged they can just deny it and be believed. The patient has no redress!

Anything else?

I can however confirm with confidence that a Consultant in Orthapedics and a Consultant of Opthalmology are never to be put in the category of any of the previous comments. They are very genuine people, and do what they can regardless, and definitely without prejudice. In fact the Orthapedics Consultant in answer to a question I asked (because I no longer trust the medical profession and my life is on hold, ) stated that if it is within his ability to improved the quality of someones life, he will do it!

He did - so that was one problem finally dealt with, but because of indifference and prejudice it took 2years to get to be referred to him!
