What I liked

All the nursing staff and midwives on the Birth Centre. The facilities were all clean and new.

What could be improved

I had to spend time in the Observation Bay which was noisy and not very private. After my experience I was desperate for some privacy and rest which I was unable to get until I was admitted to the ward over 48 hours after delivery.

I was admitted to Chesterfield Birth Centre on 4/9/2012 after being diagnosed with Severe Pre-Eclampsia. My son was delivered at 31 weeks by EMCS later that night. All the nursing staff, midwives, maternity assistants, housekeepers on CBC were fantastic and I felt very well looked after. The facilities were fantastic, I had my first child in the Jessops Wing and would recommend CBC to anyone!

I had to recover in the observation bay on the CBC, I found my time in here really distressing, mainly due to the fact that I was without my baby who had been taken to the NNU straight after birth and there were other patients being brought in all with newborn babies making any rest nearly impossible and a constant reminder that I could not have my baby with me. I found it very isolating in the bay as I had no mobile phone signal and no hospital telephone in which to make contact with anyone.

Due to refurbishment of the Trinity Ward when I was moved up to the Portland Ward my husband raised this issue with the staff up there who were very understanding and placed me in a side room with other patients without babies.
