What I liked

The following comments are extracted frrom a letter I wrote on 09.08.2012:

I want to express my thanks for and complete admiration of the excellent care I received both during and after the eleven days I spent under the care of the Respiratory Unit at Charing Cross Hospital. The team dealing with my case, the brilliant nursing staff and the cleaning, catering and other supporting personnel on 9 South Ward all deserve credit for making my stay both pleasant and successful!

I was admitted with what appeared to be antibiotic-resistant pneumonia – although it was ultimately diagnosed as likely cryptogenic organising pneumonia (or pneumonitis). However, from a layman’s viewpoint, beginning with the thorough and efficient triage process to my release, every effort was made to identify my condition and to eliminate the more sinister possibilities. And I always felt that I was included in the team’s deliberations – not simply “talked at”. In that regard, both Consultants took the time to answer my questions, never making me feel that I had asked something irrelevant. And one in particular included my wife in our discussions, both while I was in hospital and at my first follow-up consultation. She should be commended for her highly professional and sensitive approach.

Finally, yesterday I went for a follow-up appointment at the ENT Clinic. And once again, I can only express my admiration for the thorough examination I was given and the very informative dialog I had with the Consultant.

In conclusion, if the Respiratory Unit and the ENT Clinic are indicative of the whole, Charing Cross Hospital must rank as world-class amongst other comparable institutions!

What could be improved

There are probably thousends of reasons why this is not possible - but ain this day of world-wide electronic communications, WiFi access would be very useful!
