What I liked
The staff went out of their way to help and reassure me. I was treated with kindness, dignity and respect. I feel that the staff really care for me and I am not just a number on the books. When I need extra help, I know that I can ring up and will be seen as soon as possible. I am registered as visually impaired and use a long cane to help with mobility. As soon as I enter the clinic, I feel cared for and safe and the staff are always aware of how much help I need but still give me the autonomy to make my own decisions.
The facilities in the sleep clinic/respiratory clinic are excellent. The toilets are easily accessible and it is always possible to get a drink of chilled water. The staff are always willing to help me find my way to other departments, lifts etc.Despite it being a very busy clinic, there are always enough chairs for patients to sit and wait for their appointment. The staff come and fetch you when it is your turn. You do not have to wait for a bell, announcement, or try to look at a flashing screen. The department is cool and airy, and there is no intrusive music. This all helps patients remain as calm as possible before their appointment.
At my appointment I am given as much time as I need and feel I can talk openly about my condition and any concerns I might have. I have never felt that I am a nuisance or a time waster. In fact I feel constantly grateful for the use of the cpap machine that has been loaned to me. It is a vital part of my treatment and again staff are ready and waiting to help if necessary and in an emergency involving myself or a breakdown in my equipment.
Thank you to all the people involved in my continuing care. I feel lucky to be a patient in this clinic.
What could be improved
I would like to be able to book my next appointment whilst still in the clinic.
I find it difficult to ask for help and find it difficult and tiring to get to QA on my own.I would appreciate the chance to be offered if I would like to use hospital transport or to have a volunteer who could come to my appointments with me.
"I am confident that I will continue to be treated..."
