"Excellent on the whole but marred by the smokers"

About: Castle Hill Hospital

What I liked

Consistently professional and approachable staff across the whole of oncology services, from outpatients and chemotherapy, to radiotherapy. Receptionists and porters helpful. Lovely volunteers providing refreshments.

The health centre is particularly good providing advice and support when I needed. Also referrals on to complementary therapist and fatigue clinic when I needed it.

What could be improved

The smoking policy is not enforced and this angers me. There is regularly a group of people smoking at the front doors. The smoke greets you as you arrive and follows you into the building. There are clearly people receiving treatment alongside visitors who are all smoking.

I have spoken to reception staff who say that they try to move people on but get abuse. I complained to PALS but they say that it is difficult to enforce the policy but will try to pass on concerns.

This needs tackling but I do not feel that there is anyone in the trust taking responsibility. I will keep complaining but no one seems to hear.
