"Toilets need regular cleaning"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as a service user),

Whilst I would like to praise the standard of care and the empathy of staff, I would like to complain about the standard of cleanliness in the gents toilet in the main entrance (behind the cafe area near the shop).

I have used this twice in the past few weeks and on both occasions, it smelt strongly of stale urine. Not the high standard one should expect from a hospital, more like a badly run pub or park facility!

Thank you for your positive comments about the care you received at the Trust. I was however very sorry to learn of your unacceptable experience when using the public toilets at the MRI main entrance. These toilets are scheduled to be cleaned at 3 timed intervals throughout the day. We also have a checking system in place to ensure that cleaning standards are met. I was very sorry that despite these arrangements you found the toilets in a less than ideal state.

We are currently working with Sodexo our private sector partners to review the frequency of cleaning and checking in all public toilets. And plan to display signs with contact numbers should anyone find the toilets in an unsatisfactory condition. In addition we will be installing hygiene monitors in each of the public toilets in the near future to ensure that standards are effectively monitored. For the future we have plans to upgrade this area of the hospital site, which will greatly improve the fabric of the environment also. I am grateful to you for taking the time to give us your feedback so that we can improve this aspect of our services.
