I very rarely visit my GP surgery, in fact, other than routine appointments (smears etc), I hadn't been to a doctor in over 10 years until last year. I don't like walking in to a medical environment (surgery, hospital etc) unless it is absolutely necessary.
I was suffering for a permanent blocked and congested nose, I couldn't sleep and was finding it hard to breathe. I was tired, frustrated and couldn't figure out whether this was an allergic reaction to something or a more long term health problem.
When visiting the GP to talk about this, I felt rushed and that the GP either didn't believe what I was saying to her or just didn't care. I was made to feel that I had wasted her time. I would have hoped that she would have looked at my records to know that I wasn't a hypochondriac but that's how I felt when she talked to me.
I'm not sure whether this was her demeanour, but it felt she didn't care and didn't ask any probing questions to diagnose properly. To add insult to injury, she prescribed an over the counter treatment, which would have cost far less than the prescription cost.
I still have the condition, although to be fair, the prescribed medication has helped a bit but I am no further in understanding what it is and whether I will need to take this medication long term.
This experience has further deterred me from visiting the GP surgery as I feel that she will treat any complaint I have in a trivial fashion.
