"Eye accident"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Accident and emergency East Surrey Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

As a result of some DIY work lime mortar went into my eye. Lime morter being both caustic and abrasive is not too good for an eye.

My wife washed the eye and rushed me to A&E at Redhill where having registered I was seen very promptly by a senior nurse and her staff who were exceptionally good and removed what remained of the lime plaster. They were careful, efficient and as quick as they needed to be but did not rush me out until they were satisfied all was well. I saw the eye doctor the next day who was again efficient and reassuring. A week later I saw the eye doctor again and Mr Nanavaty the consultant ophathalmologist who was again efficient and professional. I had two further appointments and then was signed off. All in all the service was brilliant and almost certainly saved my sight! ! ! !

I would like my comments to be given to the Chief executive of SASH and Mr Nanavaty, please.

Dear NR

Ouch - enough to put you off DIY! I'm glad we could help though. Of course we'll pass your comments to Mr Nanavaty, the team and our Chief Executive. Thank you for going to the trouble to comment.
