What I liked
I recently had a Gastroscopy in the Endoscopy Department at Bedford Hospital and felt the need to give some feedback because all the staff there were so lovely!
I was admitted by a nurse who very carefully explained the procedure to me and my options (sedation or numbing throat spray) which allowed me to make an informed decision. She also explained the possible complications and reassured me that they were relatively uncommon. I then went back to the waiting room for no longer than 20 minutes before I was taken to sign a consent form and then to the treatment room. It's a shame I can't name individuals because my doctor and nurses were so nice. The doctor explained the procedure to me again and made sure I was happy with my decision to have a numbing spray.
During the procedure I was looked after by the doctor and two nurses who carried out the procedure. They explained everything to me as it happened i.e. why I had to wear a mouth guard, and reassured me that everything happening was normal and everything was going well. They helped me relax by telling me how much longer the procedure would be and one nurse had her hand on my arm which made me feel a lot calmer.
Afterwards I was given a report of their findings and told when to go and see my GP. They gave me an information booklet, explained the condition and told me to call them if I have any worries. I chose the throat spray so after a half an hour wait and a glass of water I was on my way.
What could be improved
Nothing comes to mind.
Anything else?
Another good experience at South Wing.
"I am very happy with the care I received."
