"Sickening and dissapionting."

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

What I liked

There wasw one kind gentleman nurse. I didn't catch his name.

What could be improved

My Grandmother has been admitted to ward C7 a number of times now and the care that she has received on this particular ward has sicken me. The first time that she was admitted a good while back she deteriorated rapidly in the space of three days due to dehydration. Please tell me how whilst in the care of professionals this is allowed to happen in the elderly. The second time Monday 20th Aug she has been addmitted I have again felt appauled by the disregard the staff on this ward have shown. My sister and I were physically upset about the state that we found her in. I visited her in the care home on Saturday and couldn't believe how rapidly she has declined. She was admitted with an infection and being confused. We tried to explain to the nurse that she has declined rapidly and this isn't how she was three days ago. Nobody could be bothered to take the time out to explain to us why she was in such a state even though we were in tears by her bedside. When a nurse (wed 22nd) finally came to speak to us it was highly evident she could not be bothered. We were greated with 'She's fine we have no concerns. This is old age... cont

Anything else?

... She told us nothing of what had happened in the space of a few days to make her so poorly. The only thing that she told us was that she was dehydrated and had to be kept on a drip to 'pump her up with fluid' Imagine my shock when we returned the next day to find out that she had been taken off the drip and I am pretty sure no body will have been taking the time to make sure she has been drinking. The kind lady at side of us also informed us that she had been shouting out all night that she had been pain with her stomach and nobody had been to see her at all. I get the general impression from this ward that if your old then tough this is what happens. But these 'old' people apart from being clearly an annoyance to the NHS are peoples mothers and grandmothers who have plowed money in the system there whold life and this is how they are repaid!
