What I liked
My 16yr old. Son is stuck on Ward 20 for the last 6 days after initially being told by our GP to report to ward 19 for suspected appendicitis. The consultant surgeon confirmed it was not appendicitis and now, 6 days later he is stuck with a catheter, on a diet of tramadol and mashed potatoes. He hasn't seen a dr in 4 days and each time I ask a nurse what's wrong with him, despite an x-ray, a CT scan and 2 ultrasounds, no one knows what is wrong with him. Is it too much to ask for the nurses to stop their 12 hour corridor conversation to find the time to ask a damn dr what is wrong with my son so they can relay that information to me?
What could be improved
The level of communication between medical professional and worried parent! And a sense of urgency in finding out what is causing his paid rather than just pumping him full of painkillers. The ward sister even told me that she hadn't actually had time to llook at his ultrasound, 14 hours after hed had it!
Anything else?
My son is 16yrs old, not an 'adult' why is he stuck on the geriatric ward?
