"Very very disappointing."

What could be improved

My doctor referred me to the surgical assessment unit following a ruptured appendix 5 weeks ago. I have a haematoma and constant pain and swelling. The doctor rang ahead and I went straight to a and e to be admitted. Once admitted I was left for 4 hours before a doctor came. I was given blood tests immediately and after that not one person came to ask if I was in pain or just to ask if I was ok as they were passing. I got a cup of tea and a sandwich as I asked for something. I was then given a jug of water but nothing to drink it from. After 2 and a half hours I had still had no communication from any of the staff. I realise that they have serious cases to deal with, but not when they are all standing around joking. Not one person came to see if I needed anything or felt ok. I was cold so I put my cardigan around me and I was in pain but no painkillers were offered. When the doctor came he was extremely disinterested in listening to my description of what I was feeling and gave me a half hearted examination. I was then ignored for another 2 hours before someone came to say I would be going home. It then took another hour for someone to come and ask me about a discharge letter. I could not help at all with any information as nothing had been explained to me. Eventually at nearly 11pm I was given a pack of paracetamol and a letter which one nurse said I had to take to my doctor and another said was for me. I was thirsty and tired and felt extremely angry as I still have no idea what went on. As I said before I understand that there are lots of serious patients to deal with but I was a patient too and was grossly let down. I am sure that if there was a cqc check you would fail miserably. I am still in pain but only hope I never have to go back to the surgical assessment unit in the near future.

I don't expect anyone will bother to answer this complaint. I have always backed Stafford Hospital before now and have always been extremely satisfied . Not any more!
