"Treatment, excellent, admin needs impovement"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

What I liked

Underwent a Catheter Ablation procedure, I have to say that all staff from Consultant / Registrar to the most junior nurse were absolutely superb.

What could be improved

Discharge procedures need to be greatly improved, having been cleared to leave the hospital by the Consultant at 10.am and given having been discharge instructions etc, I ciould leave one once a junior doctor had written up the dischage notes for my GP. Why it took in excess of fours hours for this to be done is difficult understand and even then I left hospital without them. I had received prescribed medicine but this was locked away pending the discharge notes, however a nurse who clearly found the situation as unacceptable as I did said the discharge summary would be posted to me, I was then given my medication and went home. I gather this is not an uncommon occurrence.

Anything else?

Please, please review your discharge procedures, the Discharge notes are merely an A4 handwritten self carbonating document. It is very frustrating to have relatives waiting about, incurring paerking charges or a parking ticket due to avoidable delays
