What I liked
I had my baby at L & D "by accident" as I was booked at my local hospital in Essex but my water broke at a friends house and due to her footling breech presentation, was told to go directly to the nearest hospital, which was L & D. From the start, everyone we encountered was competent, polite, introduced themselves and friendly. They planned to section me later that evening but when I dilated really fast and ended up having an emergency section, all the staff still took the time to explain and reassure me and my husband. Post delivery the MW and MHCA's helped me numerous times to establish latching.
The postnatal staff were lovely and always happy to help me.Analgesia was always given on time and additional meds offered for break through pain.
What could be improved
How the ward "worked" wasn't explained ie.fetching your food/the kitchen/being able to make your own drinks (but I figured it out and the staff were happy to answer questions)
The take home medication took a long time to come from the pharmacy leading to being discharged very late in the day
Anything else?
The staff in all areas really seemed to enjoy their jobs.
"Fantastic maternity services"
