"Very happy with Level of care given by all staff-..."

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

What I liked

I was admitted straight from a & e with chest pain. I was given an instant X-ray as dr thought I had a chest infection (whilst in a and e). That came back clear and staff suspected I may have a blood clot in lungs and transferred me to I stayed in Robert Watson for one Night and arranged for a scan.

I was so nervous about the baby and staying alone at the hospital (being 25yrs old and pregnant first time at 22 weeks) but I was so impressed by how welcoming all the staff were; the healthcare assistants, midwives, staff nurses, catering staff and even the cleaners. They made me feel so comfortable and genuinely seemed to care. The midwives do have a passion for their jobs.

The nurses, dr and healthcare assistant was so helpful and caring. Nothing was ever too much for the staff and they made me feel so much more comfortable. The doctors were exceptional; they spoke to me about the scans I needed to do and told me all about the procedure required.

In the end the scan was okay and I was discharged. My regret is that I should have thanked them whilst i was there.

Another thing I found really useful partner is allowed to stay for whole day 10am-10pm which was good- but still thought that staff were a tad on the strict side when he turned up 20mins early! But I suppose thats policy. Husband was very impressed with the security on the ward as he had to come back late night to drop off some bits and pieces to me

I am looking forward to returning to the hospital in October when I give birth, hopefully the labour ward will be just as good!

What could be improved

I thought that staff were a tad on the strict side when my husband turned up 20mins early! But I suppose thats policy.

And if I'm being really fussy (i shouldn't really because it's only food) but when I got to the ward at 12am I was hungry and they only had ham sandwiches. I'm vegetarian - but to be fair they did offer me toast. It's just I would have preferred a sandwich!

Many thanks for taking the time to give us some feedback, and we're pleased to hear that you were happy with the way you were looked after recently. We hope you're now feeling much better. Sorry about being strict with visiting hours but it's really to try and ensure that our new and prospective mums get enough rest - and we'll try and do better with a cheese sandwich next time! Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy and we look forward to seeing you again in October.
