"Excellent Maternity Service Ulster Hospital"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Maternity

(as a relative),

My wife was given a date for a C-section but went into labour a week before at about 5 am. We contacted the hospital were asked to come in asap, which we did. What unfolded is what I can only describe as a truly 'patient centered care'. It was a stressful time for us as a couple, more so for my wife. But the staff, their courtesy and service with a smile made our experience so much better.

What really helped was not the lovely new building, but the attitude of all staff. A Nurse came round after the delivery to the ward to do routine checks and help my wife and when leaving asked, "is there anything else I can do for you? ". I have used a number of NHS hospitals but have never heard that from any staff. My wife and I looked at each other in disbelief when the next day a Nursing Auxilliary came do clean my wife and change her pads and when leaving said exactly the same thing "is there anything else I can do for you? ".

My wife got a single room after 24 hours and we had a number of staff doing their job but it seemed to be centered round my wife and our daughter. We never actually saw any grumpiness (that we experienced quite a bit of at a nearby maternity hospital where our 2 other children were born) in any of the staff.

I wish more services in NHS in NI were run like this - with excellent 'customer service' / 'patient service'

Thank you staff at Ulster Maternity for your help when we needed it most. I was genuinely moved to receive such good care.
