I am dental phobic and recently became a patient with the Wisbech Cambs community dental practice.

I have BIG teeth roots and my previous dentists have always had a problem to extract a tooth, also one dentist extracted a tooth whilst there was an infection under it which did not allow the local anaesthetic to work. Due to these experiences I am really phobic about dentists.

During the initial check up I asked if I could have gas, but they said as I am diabetic that gas would compromise my illness and no I could not have gas. I have had minor operations in which I had either sedation by injection or general anaesthetic and neither presented any problems.

I was a patient with the Huntingdon Community dental clinic for 3 years and now having recently moved I am told that as soon as my dental plan has been completed I will be given help to find another dentist and this is giving me more anxiety as I cannot understand why two NHS Community dental clinics can work so different, .

Can you advise me as to what options I have. I live in Wisbech.

Thank you for raising your concerns. I can assure you that the service you will receive at the Wisbech Community Dental Service will be no different from that you have received at the Huntingdon Community Dental Service, as they are both part of a single service provided by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust and commissioned by NHS Cambridgeshire. I have responded in more detail to you by email. I do hope that this sets your mind at rest.
