About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

(as the patient),

I have experienced a very poor response to my GP's request for specialist appointments. Waiting a whole year for Treatment, when a great deal of further damage is done in the meantime.

I feel that early diagnoses would save the NHS a great deal of money. No funding was available in my case, but I was not told about this, and therefore became more anxious about my condition.

I feel my local NHS trust has deprived me of my lifestyle as I knew it. Now I have read a new leaflet about Traqs that I feel is pure bluff. I think we need a better service.

Dear wenwill25,

Sorry to read about your dissapointment with the TRAQS service. I would like to take this opportunity to explain a little how TRAQS works. Firstly TRAQS is a new service for the patients of Telford and Wrekin, the new service only went live from the 14th June 2012 with a handful of practices in Telford, we only dealt with referrals from that date, so unfortunately we would not have known or received any other information regarding treatment you were waiting for or previosuly had.

One of the reasons that the TRAQS service was partly put in place is to help and support patients in making the next step to bettter help by assiting them and guiding them to the right healthcare setting, depending on the information supplied to us by your GP Practice.

The GP PRactice will send us a referral letter, we will then contact you to dicsuss further and then help you with making an appointment for the hospital or other chosen healthcare setting, the TRAQS service has no control over waiting times at hospitals, whislt we advise all our patientss of whether there are appointments available or not, it is the patients choice to decide their next step, if patients decide to wait, that is their choice, TRAQS can only advise and support.

Previous to TRAQS, there was not a local service that was dedicated to supporting patients and the GP practies in Telford, TRAQS has had full support and has been very well received and welcomed as a link to secondary care.
