"Caring & compassionate GP"

About: Halton and St Helens PCT / Primary care mental health service

(as the patient),

My GP at the Spinney Medical Centre, has recently been an excellent source of support for me during a particularly difficult and distressing time with my mental health.

I have been self harming for a very long time now, and have had a mixed bag of good and bad experiences. Luckily for me I have never had a bad experience with a GP but up until recently I've never had such a fantastic experience.

As my mental health deteriorated recently, I spoke to my GP and asked them to also have a look at some of the injuries I had caused to myself. I was treated with the utmost respect and dignity and did not feel judged at all.

As the GP knew I was struggling with low mood, I was offered regular appointments and the GP contacted my CPN to ensure that my support network from the professionals were all aware of my deterioration.

The GP also knew how guilty I felt about seeing them regularly, as I felt I was wasting the GPs time and using up time that other people needed. The GP was great with reassuring me and I felt genuinely cared for and supported. I was never rushed, felt the GP was thorough with the questions asked, sat and listened to me and took in everything I was saying.

As well as the support from my GP, I had excellent support and treatment from the practice nurses who saw me regularly to apply dressings, check wounds and remove stitches.

I can't fault any of them - thank you all for your ongoing support through this particularly difficult time.
