"Donating Blood"

About: Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service

(as a service user),

I have donated blood since I was 18 years of age, I am now 69 years.

Last week I attended my local venue to donate.

A Donor Health Check Questionnaire had been posted out prior to attending the session, 'to save time'.

The time delay was lengthier than usual. There were less 'beds' and in my view less staff. Whilst queuing I exchanged conversation with many other donors some who had come directly from their work, some prior to going to work; one donor left before donating because he did not want to be late for his job.

As the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service relies on the genorosity of donors then if the queue-time is not resolved some donors may continue not to give their blood and TIME to such a worthwhile cause.

Resource this service properly.

Dear Ms Boyd,

I am very sorry that such a committed and long serving blood donor as yourself had to wait much longer than usual when you last donated blood.

Every complaint we receive is fully investigated. To allow us to do this it would be very helpful if you could tell me when and where you gave blood recently and I can then find out exactly what happened to increase the waiting time and of course make sure that it does not happen next time!

You can email me direct at moira.eadie@nhs.net or submit the complaint through the SNBTS website via the link below.

Once again please accept my apologies for the delays you faced when you gave blood. Your feedback is very helpful and, if you can provide me with some information, it will help us to improve our service.

May I also thank you on behalf of the many patients in Scotland who will have benefitted from your donations over the years.

Yours sincerely,

Moira Eadie

Deputy National Donor Services Manager
