My son waited four months for CBT in Croydon.

After his first appointment his confidentiality was breached, a recording of the interview shared with line manager, he was referred to Social Services without first being informed, suspended from work until further notice while meetings decide his future, and kept completely in the dark as to what decisions are being made about it.

All of this has taken place after asking for help for depression at our local GP practice.

I am sorry your son waited four months for CBT in Croydon, the referrals rates to Croydon IAPT are very high and therefore the waiting lists are long. We are endeavouring to improve them and are in discussion with the commissioners to see how they maybe able to help with this.

I am sorry your felt his confidentiality was breached. One of the expectations of IAPT staff is to have continued clinical supervision to make sure we are delivering high quality and effective treatments. It is the expectation of all staff to discuss their clinical cases in supervision with their manager to ensure appropriate treatment is being delivered. One of the ways of doing this is to record a treatment session in order to review it with the clinicians manager, to look at what worked well and what could be improved. Whilst this is common practice across all IAPT services, your son should have been aware of and consented to this before his treatment started. I apologise for this not happening and I will remind staff of the need to do this.

As this posting is anonymous I am unsure of the circumstances under which a referral to social services took place and I therefore feel unable to comment on this.

I have alerted the manager of the Croydon IAPT service to this complaint and she will be happy to discuss this further with your son (or yourself should your son consent for this to happen).
