I had heard negative reports on Watford and so my original plan was to just go to the anti natal appointments for logistical reasons and switch hospitals before birth. However I had such good and thorough treatments in my appointments I decided to give birth there.
When I first was having contractions minutes apart, I went down to the hospital in the night. The initial reception was very frosty from the staff so.i started to worry I had made the wrong choice. They sent me home as I was only 1cm dilated.
The next morning I called up as I was still getting contractions every couple of minutes and they told me to come back in the care from thereon was amazing.
I went to the first ward before you are on labour (maybe called catherine or Victoria I cant remember) thestaff were very attentive.
I was there for four days having contractions until
I finally had the baby.
The midwife did not leave the room hardly at all.on her shift, she was amazing and literally watched my babys heartbeat close up.for her whole shift.
I had a very difficult pregnancy that resulted in an emergency c section but it was all very organised.
The after care was brilliant in each ward I.was moved into. People went out of there way to take care of me and the baby.
I am sad I never managed to get skin on skin.with my baby until a few days later as this definitely affected breastfeeding. The baby unit were great and took good care of my baby. The only negative I have is they made breastfeeding a stressful time. And pushing me that if the baby hadnt fed by x time on the clock they would tube feed her and I had only had her for 5 or 10 minutes I thought it should be more relaxed. But their intentions were good. I think they are used to following a rule.book or to premature babies.
If I was in America and had to pay for the service I received I cant even imagine the cost. I saw so many different people and someone was always on hand to help.
"5 star treatment"
