"My birthing experience"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Maternity care

As I arrived at the hospital (post labour unit)

I was given my own room where I would start my induction process. Balloon method as discussed prior in my consultation with a doctor. This unit was a mixture of individual rooms as well as a room shared with about 6 woman max. Staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable. I induced fairly quickly and was swiftly taken down to the delivery suite. As it was early hours of the morning I was offered breakfast and was not rushed at all as I waited for my partner to arrive. My midwife then had introduced her self and made small talk about how badly her day was going. She went through my birthing plan and had done inserted the tube in my hand where later blood can be drawn and done incorrectly so alot of blood had gotten everywhere. Later on in conversation with another midwife was told when starting new at the hospital she would need training before attempting on a patient and she had done it was at University. A student had also come to the room to observe after asking permission from me.

I was told about several method of pain relief, opted for epidural which was administrated perfectly and later 2 injections through the long process.

The birth was long and painful as I had failed epidurul do to the midwife wrapping two or more heart monitoring devices around my belly which rubbed on my back where the needle was sitting and pulled it out which was so disheartening as I had to then proceed the last part of the birth on my own with just gas and air.

After my daughter had arrived with the help of forcips, I had lost alot of blood resulting in my fainting doctors arrived and took over and took me to theatre. After I had woken up I was taken to an empty room still in the delivery suite and was there for a couple days which was great. On one particular day as I struggled out of bed after my catheter and balloon was taken out, a student had come down to take me to the post labour room shared with other women. She was very rude and unhelpful I could barely move and very sore but had such a blank expression on her face and was making me rush. I had taken myslef out of bed even though I was told I would receive help. I then shared a room with woman who were labouring and women whom had given birth it was awful the last night I pressured staff to take the tubed out my hand and said they will do it but took so long, I could barely move my hand because they were in that long and couldn't even change my baby's nappy. I was given hot lunch but no table to put it on as they ran out. Up all night as a woman was labouring in the same room.

Listened to staff who changed the beddings in the room speaking of staff not wanting to work there in the middle of the night. The doctors are amazing and most of the midwifes. Students need more monitering when dealing with patients. Their attitude isn't amazing just glad this was my last experience of giving birth. Thank you to all the staff who love their job.
