Developed cough that was making chest and throat burn more and more until breathing became difficult. Called 111 where paramedic was dispatched and recommended visit to A&E.
Was told a nurse would triage me likely within 15 mins.
Arrived and was asked for symptoms which put me through to the emergency department within 1 hour having been told it would take a little longer than usual. Blood pressure was taken 3 times during this period along with some blood tests. Told to take a seat where I've been waiting for 6 HOURS with no explanation what I'm waiting for. Blood pressure was taken 2 more times and was offered a drink of water once.
Of the 4 people that were there before me, 2 were waiting for beds, 1 had a dozen tests and managed to get resolved and the other just up and left fed up with waiting (this last one happened 4 times in total). One guy came in after and straight up just said he was here for drugs. He was seen to before ANYONE ELSE.
Just tell me what I'm here for! Tell PEOPLE what they're waiting for. Communicate with your patients and you won't have so many unhappy patients who keep walking out or being angry at you.
