I was scooped up from the road and taken to A and E with very broken leg. It quickly became obvious that things were much worse than I had realised and surgery was required. From that moment I entered the system and I can tell you I was afraid.
However from that moment every member of staff I encountered was clearly caring, competent and skilled in patient care, both medical and pastoral. I will admit to being a difficult man, never ill or injured, not a willing patient yet was given plenty of latitude as well as support, which was exactly what I needed.
The medical procedures were all performed gently and with explanation a credit to the compassion and skill of the staff. The doctors were forthcoming with explanations of treatment protocols and outcomes.
The wards were spotless and the food was good, even now while I convalesce at home I still miss the tea trolley, particularly the evening run with biscuits.
Thank Beveridge we have this marvel of care and long may it continue.
"Thank-you for putting me back together"
