"Adult Circumcision"

About: Crawley Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Pre surgery and during surgery everything was fine. Great care and reasonable consultation.

Aftercare is non-existent. When you have come out of surgery having had a general anesthetic you're not too receptive to what you're being told. But I was discharged without feeling very confident on what happens next? As it tuned out this was quite a significant issue for me.

Bandaging was used which at the time (numbed from any pain) seemed fine.I kept the bandaging on for 3 days and had hand washes so as not to disturb the area or get any infection. Then I had to take the bandaging off!!

The material used to bandage had stuck to the area around the surgery. Taking it off was excruciating agony and caused significant bleeding (and I blacked out). My wife put on a clean dressing which was the case for the next 3-4 days, the pain began to lessen but taking off the bandaging was simply awful. After about a week it is better to use Vaseline around the area to stop sticking and to help recovery of the area. Believe me, you hate having to pee, because that means prizing your old man away from the material of your underwear - which is fun!!

Two areas that need attention; quality of bandaging and aftercare. I felt lost when I got home. If not for my wife (who is a medical professional) I would have been in a poor way.

Update posted by JW-99 (the patient)

Thank you Claire, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Everything is healing up now but I thought I'd share my initial experiences with the dressing and discharge with any other chaps undergoing the same procedure. My god it hurt and if not for my wife I honestly don't know what I would have done to remove the dressing and re-dress it?
