"Mixed nut challenge"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

I was given small portions of cookies which contained nuts. When I was given 1/8th of the cookie, I could feel a tingling sensation in my throat and I alerted the staff about this. They were very quick to respond and were very helpful. I was given a dose of antihistamine to relieve the stress.

Response from Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. It must be quite frightening coming in for tests when you know you may have an adverse response. Hearing that you were well supported and prompt actions were taken when you reported symptoms of your nut allergy must be reassuring to you and to others who may be attending for similar tests. I will share your positive story with the staff.

Response from Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

Thankyou for posting your experience on Care Opinion. Having the allergy test must have been scary for you especially not knowing what would happen and although you had a tingling sensation in your throat the staff acted appropriately and were able to give you some medicine to stop the tingling. Whilst coming into hospital can be frightening the nurses and doctors are always here to help you and so hopefully if you need to come into hospital again it wont be so scary.
