It makes me sad to have to write this review. Before I did I looked at previous reviews on the care opinion website. I am not alone in thinking that people that work here are very Eurocentric.
The term 'Eurocentrism' denotes a world-view which, implicitly or explicitly, posits European history and values as “normal” and superior to others.
Is eurocentricy a problem? Yes, it is when the all the glossy patient information leaflets, and sleek website declares- “We embrace diversity and culture”
Today I listened to a podcast of a meeting between the medical director and a patient. My observations are as follows
The medical director was trying to find solutions, I was in full support of her position, until it came to correcting medical errors.
When a doctor does something wrong it should be corrected. Medical records follow the patient for life. If the patient wants things corrected 2 years after the entry is made, this is reasonable and fair.
The medical director said doctors are not going to correct errors they made 2 years ago. Are patients given clinical notes after every care encounter to check if they agree? NO.Is there any published time limit on when patients can ask for corrections? NO
This means that when the patient asked for hails from____ to be changed to was born in_____. This should have been done forthwith and apology issued.
Siding with the doctor who refused to correct her mistakes, just sends a clear message. “Leeds and York is eurocentric…minorities approach with care.”
"Eurocentricy is Rife"
