About: Pinderfields General Hospital / General surgery

Sunday the entrance & cafe area smelt very strong of cigarette smoke due to people smoking in the entrance, monday tuesday the entrance way was again contaminated with cigarette smoke, there are large signs stating no smoking on hospital grounds, why is the area not policed by the security, for none smokers this is unacceptable & hope in the very near future this is rectified.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience.

The presence of smokers at the main entrance of our hospital is a concern, which the Trust is addressing and continues to source new initiatives in the hope of encouraging our patients and visitors not to smoke. Patients and visitors are requested not to smoke on the hospital grounds and there is signage to this effect across the estate. Staff are encouraged to speak to smokers, if they feel it is safe for them to do so, to remind them of this message.

The Trust has recently appointed a dedicated Smoking Warden at Pinderfields Hospital.

Part of the Smoking Warden’s duties is to use his best efforts to reduce smoking incidents outside of the hospital entrance.

The Trust continues to review the management of smokers in order to provide an environment which meets the needs of its patients, visitors and staff. Our Head of Facilities is aware of this problem and is continually trying a number of initiatives to address this issue.

Thank you again for taking the time to share with us your concerns.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn

(Patient Liaison Improvement Lead)
