"9 months waiting (and counting) for initial..."

About: Hinchingbrooke Hospital / Ophthalmology

My father was diagnosed with clouding cataracts on 12/12/2018 at Boots opticians. Diagnosis was forwarded to Hinchingbrooke's eye clinic forthwith. It is today 23/08/2019 and we have had no co-operation or liaison.

I have been phoning every two months, only to be fobbed off each and every time with instructions to wait a further two months.

We are now being told to wait until AT LEAST the end of September. My father is 86, cannot see to read or watch TV or discern the contents of his dinner plate.

He has fallen numerous times - we now dread his taking a tumble on the stairs and sustaining serious injury. He started paying tax and national insurance in 1948 - the year of the NHS's inauguration.

In the box below, I am instructed to state when I visited this hospital.

Chance would be a fine thing!

Angry?

Wouldn't you be?

Thank you for your email. We are aware there is an issue with capacity within this department. Unfortunately, this is a national issue. I am very sorry to hear about your Father not receiving his appointment.

I would urge your father to go back to his GP or local Opticians for them to re review and if his condition has deteriorated for them to expedite his referral to the emergency eye clinic.

Kind regards

Bernadette Jacques
