"They truly understood his underlying dementia"

About: Derriford Hospital South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

My Dad had to be taken into Derriford hospital early hours of Saturday morning in August- due to his dementia he was very confused but Dean and Sebastian of Liskeard came and were able to calm him and reassure him.  Due to busyness of the A&E Dept got a Doctor to come and see him on the ambulance first and then arrange for him to be taken straight into a cubicle and not have to wait on a trolley in a corridor to reduce his stress levels and distress.

They truly understood his underlying dementia and dealt with his medical condition wonderfully with care and attention without being patronising as well as reassuring me, on what was a very busy night for them.  They made us feel they had all the time in the world.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and I hope your dad is recovering well.

It is always rewarding to hear stories of how our staff are delivering care and support to patients and those around them when they need it most.

We would be happy to share your story with the staff involved in this instance, however, to do so we will need some specific information. If you would like us to do this, please may I ask you to contact us on either plaudits@swast.nhs.uk or 01392 261 534 and a member of the Patient Engagement Team will be happy to help you further.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to provide us with feedback.

Kind regards,

Sharifa
