"I just want to know what's happening"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Maternity unit

(as the patient),

I have a date set for a C-Section next month.

I have still not met my consultant even though I am consultant led. I had 2 previous sections at Princess Royal Maternity with complications and no-one at this hospital seems to have a full set of my notes. I have grave concerns going into surgery at this hospital when I feel that the antenatal care I have had has been patchy at best. No-one seems to know whats happening least of all me. Last month I was told I shouldn`t even be at Forth Valley I should be at Wishaw. This is extremely concerning. I dont have a midwife. I dont have a consultant. I dont even seem to have a hospital!

Dear AilsaC

I am truly sorry to hear that your care has been very disjointed and I totally understand the anxiety and frustration this must be causing you.

Mums-to-be who choose to deliver their babies in FVRH instead of their local hospital usually have the majority of their antenatal care with their local midwifery team e.g. the Wishaw or Cumbernauld Midwives (depending on where you live); their care at the antenatal clinic in FVRH or a combination of both. In the maternity unit the hospital based midwives will provide care and then when your wee baby is born, your postnatal care is carried out at home by the original local team.

It sounds like it would be a good idea for you to be seen at the FVRH antenatal clinic as soon as possible so that you have the opportunity to discuss all of your concerns and hopefully get clarity about your care. I would be happy to look at arranging an appointment for you if you could get in touch as I need some personal details. I can be contacted on gailbell@nhs.net or on 01324567484. Hopefully we can get this sorted out quickly so that you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Gail
