"Surgical termination"

About: Newham General Hospital / Gynaecology

I was referred to Newham Hospital for a Surgical termination. I was unable to have one in my hometown in Kent due to medical issues. My experience of the care I received from start to finish of the process was really positive. The counselling service I received prior to my appt was relaxed and professional, a nurse took my bloods and medical history and the consultant performed a scan and discussed my options. I left with a date for the operation and felt a huge weight had been lifted from this very difficult situation. On the the day of my surgery I arrived at 7am, several healthcare professionals came to speak to me to ensure I was In good health and understood what was happening, the anaesthetist kindly came to speak to me about a few things I was getting anxious about that morning and talked me through my concerns. I was given tablets to soften the cervix around 15 minutes before I went down to theatre, I was sedated to calm me down before being put under general anaesthetic which helped a lot, although the rest is quite a blur I was back on the ward by 10:30 with a cup of tea and a sandwich. I was discharged before 11:45 and on my way home. I Have had very little pain or discomfort since. I am so very grateful to all the staff that treated me that day. I hope that anybody else attending Newham for the same reason will also feel at ease. Thank you again.
