I was referred for an ECG at the Derby Royal Hospital by my GP back in January following concerns over a routine breathing test. The ECG showed up some irregularities and I was quickly referred to the cardiology department for an angiogram which diagnosed coronary heart disease with two major blockages. I was subsequently [and very quickly] readmitted to the cardiology department for an angioplasty procedure and had 3 stents fitted in February.
The whole process from the initial ECG to the fitting of the stents was all completed in a matter of weeks. The consultant cardiologist was absolutely superb in the operating theatre during both procedures and in both cases gave calm and expert explanations of my condition and what he was doing during the operations. I would add that the nursing staff who looked after me during both visits to the cardiology department were wonderful too.
About 8 weeks after the stents had been fitted, I was invited to attend an 8-week cardiac rehabilitation course at the hospital which involved attending two gym-based sessions each week and a number of lectures relating to my condition. Again, the staff running these sessions were fantastic and the course extremely valuable/necessary.
There is no doubt that the hospital staff have saved my life and I very, very happy with the service I have received at the Derby Royal Hospital. Thank you !!
