"Level of care received"

About: General practices in Lothian St John's Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I was admitted on Tuesday in July 2019 with C Diff. I was initially placed in isolation/a side room in MAU, awaiting a space/bed to prevent further contamination or spread of the bacteria.i was then moved to the Observation ward and I can honestly say  that during the 6 days and counting i have been in here the level of care, treatment and consideration i have received has been second to none.

I have a number of serious underlying health conditions that can make treating me more problematic and time consuming, but the doctors, nurses, auxiliaries, porters, cleaners and students provided an excellent service despite it being abundantly clear that they were massively overworked and exhausted due to staff shortages budget cuts etc.

One student nurse was extremely pale and clearly overcome with the heat and exhaustion but was so determined to continue to carry out her duties it was heart wrenching to watch her work. This is just a small indicator of the commitment and dedication our NHS staff give whilst working shockingly long hours desperately trying to plug the gaps made through inadequate funding for staffing and equipment. The government should stop look and listen to those working in hospitals doctor surgeries etc and actually do something  practical for once!

I would like to commend all the staff and clinical staff manager at the renal/Lupis Clonic, at the ERI, but especially Mr Bean , the staff on both MAU and the Observation ward in St Johns hospital for taking such good care of me during my stay and my doctors surgery at dedridge health centre for recognising the need to admit me swiftly during this very serious illness.

I am aware i sound like I'm at the Oscars but these unsung heroes have literally  saved my life on x3 occasions in the last 19months and i am eternally grateful to them and the NHS for everything!

Dear 'Gingergirl',

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us this feedback.

I was delighted to read that you had such a positive experience whilst under our care and I will make sure that this is shared with the clinical teams who I am sure will appreciate your kind words.

I would like to reassure you that clinical and management teams in NHS Lothian are working closely together to create the best possibe conditions for patients and staff and it really goes a long way to see comments like yours recognising our efforts.

Best wishes,

Aris
