After fracturing my calcaneus in 2010 I have suffered severe issues with osteoarthritis and mobility. In 2017 I was put in touch with the Orthopedic team at St Michaels hospital led by Mr Butler. From the first consultation I received a superb service and for the first time in a long time I felt hope that my situation might improve.
The route to surgery was fast although at no time did I feel rushed or pressured.
Early 2018 I had my sub-talar joint fused. The care from all staff was without fault. What I found best was the level of empathy and moral support. Surgery is scary as are needles, fluid sacks and coming too from anesthetic but the staff alleviated any fears.
Over a year on from the surgery and the hideous pain of osteoarthritis is reduced significantly and only after this do I realise how crippling the pain was before the op.
I've recommended the team and hospital to others especially veterans as the treatment was through the Veterans Trauma Network.
