"Bad care on the wards and filthy bathrooms"

I was admitted to St George's after going through emergency in May 2012. After a long wait in emergency I was finally taken to a back room to see a doctor.

The room had a dripping tap (which drove us slowly mad after being in there for over 5 hours), paint peeling off the walls and the toilet in the corridor had no soap or tissue and had urine all over the floor.

The treatment was very slow but ok. I was then admitted to the neurology ward where all of the problems began. The first nurse we saw was very nice and gave me a sandwich as it was now midnight and I had been at the hospital since about 4pm that afternoon. The ward was freezing cold and I ended up waking up with a sinus infection from the air con. The nurses were very loud for most of the night chatting together and I couldn't get much sleep.

Come the morning out curtains were ripped right back so we had absolutely no privacy and was staring at one another. We were not allowed to close the curtains, even partially. The bathroom had poo splattered all over and around the toilet and stank horribly. I kept asking for a towel to have a shower but was never given one the entire day.

The nurses I met were abrupt and rude and really didn't seem to care about their patients. One of the nurses sat at the desk and moaned at the top of her lungs on the telephone to another member of staff about her hours being changed.

When the consultants and doctors finally get around to seeing you they are quite good.

I have had stays in numerous hospitals and this is by far the worst hospital I have ever been to. I have no idea who hires the nurses and admin staff but a complete overhaul is needed. I felt the admin and nurses I met were sour and rude, and should be given notice to improve or kicked out.
