"Next of kin contact"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency

Having had my Aunt admitted to A&E three times recently it was very disappointing, as next of kin, not to be notified of her admission. Trying to get through to A&/Admissions is well night impossible and therefore I have no idea which ward she has been admitted to. Very frustrating when you are 200 miles away and the latest admission was a 999 call ......

Thank you for sharing your comments. We do appreciate the worry this must have caused for you and your family. It is usual practice to try to contact a patient's next of kin if they come to the Emergency Department alone. We are not sure what has happened on this occasion and we can only apologise that no contact was made. If you would like to speak to an Emergency Department Matron please contact our PALS team (patient advice and liaison service) on 01634 825004 or medwayft.pals@nhs.net and they will be happy to facilitate this.

Kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team
