"Making a nerve-wracking situation worse"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I visited for an ultrasound earlier this month. The technician was very blunt, brusque and cold to me. They told me to undress before the door had been locked or a curtain pulled around me, snapped at me several times, barked instructions at me so rapidly and then would sigh before I even had a chance to do what was requested. I was asked to press onto my stomach to help with the scan, then did it themself pressing ultra hard with no warning and told me I was gassy so it was going to hurt and there was nothing to be done.

The experience alone made me feel vulnerable, let alone this person talking to me like that. I understand the staff are worked hard and people are just on a conveyor belt but I was a young girl alone, having a scan to check for something potentially scary- I really could have done with some warmth.

I walked away from the hospital in tears and with a very negative impression. All I needed was someone kind and empathetic, it would have made me feel a lot better.

Thank you for posting your comments. I am very sorry that the technician's attitude was not as it should have been and that you went away upset.

I wonder if you know the name of the technician as I would like to be able to follow up with their manager. If you do know, could you email me at Jessica.bush@nhs.net (Head of Patient Experience).

If not, I will send on to the manager responsible for the service so that they can follow up with the team of technicians.

Sorry once again that this experience was such a bad one for you.
