My wife had her plaster cast removed recently at K&C hospital following a fractured wrist. The plaster room technician duly removed the cast and informed us to wait to see the Consultant. My wife was called in and saw the Consultant who said," that's alright, we will sort out some physio for you".No clinical examination. On leaving his office I asked a member of staff for an instruction leaflet on "do's and dont's" post cast removal."We don't have any", was the reply! So you have a cast on for six weeks, have it removed and are not given any advice/guidelines on care. Two weeks later no physio appt. received.Thank goodness for the internet to download advice information, many other hospitals give this information to the patient at the time of the appt.,which is common sense and ensures a satisfactory recovery. This needs to be addressed with some urgency to ensure patients recover properly.I find it totally unacceptable that patients are not given any advice on self management.Yes,you can ask but are not given detailed advice on exercises.
"Patient information needed."
