I was rushed into Southmead A&E having been diagnosed as experiencing an atrial fibrillation episode. Within a few minutes I was being seen by an A&E doctor and nurses. Apologies if I queue jumped anyone but I understand that heart conditions take precedence. My treatment in A&E was first class - I was consulted professionally and politely and kept informed as to what was going on. From there I was transferred to an Acute Medical ward where the same high standards continued. The nurses were great, as was the consultant I saw the next morning. This was my first time going into hospital as an 'emergency case' and it has restored my faith in the NHS. I have recently seen a bad level of care when my elderly father-in-law was moved to several hospitals the other side of the country. The difference is simply down to culture - Southmead staff made eye contact and put care before bureaucracy, from consultants down to porters. My thanks to all the staff.
