"Stress Control Workshop Brentford Free Church."

About: Hounslow IAPT

(as the patient),

I had an anxiety attack at the workshop. The equipment that was used (Microphone) wasn't checked prior to the workshop commencing, this didn't work properly for the first 45 mins, unable to focus on what they were saying, very frustrating.  We were given two questionnaires ( a two page one and a 15 page one) and asked to read and fill these out during the time the Assistant Psychologists were speaking. Several times they referred to articles in the questionnaires but they were not able to tell us on which page. I am not able to listen to a lecture and read and write at the same time. The noise in the room was also very distracting with people constantly turning pages to fill these forms out I was unable to concentrate on what the speaker was saying. I did manage to calm myself and speak with one of the speakers at the end and they suggested that I sit far away from everyone so that the noise of turning pages would not prevent me from hearing them speak, I felt this staff member did not understand the triggers of stress that this workshop was causing, instead of helping me. We were given a 5 min break but told if we hadn't completed the questionnaire (2 page ) to complete it then, so no break, and also we only needed to fill out 1 questionnaire and take the other one home, that was not explained clearly, hence the panic to fill both out....

What could have been better? Equipment checked before they start.  Questionnaires to be given out after the two Assistant Psychologists finish the lecture, that way we can take in what they have said and use that information to fill out the forms. I will attend next week's workshop and give them another chance, what I have learnt from this is to leave a stressful situation asap which I will do if this happens again.

Kind Regards
