"Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy at Airedale General..."

About: Airedale General Hospital

I had an appointment yesterday at Airedale General Hospital for a Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy including biopsies. I just wanted to leave a hugely positive review to the whole team, who were extremely supportive, comforting and welcoming.

I had never had these tests done before and was feeling nervous when I arrived. A nurse took me into an interview room and went through the whole procedure to let me know what to expect. She was very lovely and assuring that I was in very good hands. Once I had changed, she very gently inserted the cannula. I usually feel dizzy and sick around needles, so she let me lay down on the trolley afterwards to help me relax and feel better before going into the procedure.

Whist there was a wait, I really didn't mind. All staff that passed by seemed very cheerful and warming, always said hello and asked how I was doing. I also have Type 1 Diabetes, and every now and then they would ask how my blood glucose levels were .

The team performing the Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy were really welcoming and professional. These two tests were not at all pleasant, but the team tried to make it as comfortable for me as possible.

I was given a couple of blankets to keep warm, and was happy that it was only lifted briefly for the Colonoscopy insertion.

One nurse in particular held my hand to comfort me, and talked to me to try distract me.

I cant thank her enough for doing this as I panicked through most of the Gastroscopy and dread to think how I would have been without her kind words.

I was gently wheeled off to the recovery room where my vitals where checked twice within a certain period, and was offered a piece of toast (I had brought my own however as I have Coeliac Disease too) with a selection of jams and butter, and a cup of tea. The nurses here were also very warming, not just to me but all of the other patients.

I would be very thankful if someone could give the whole department my thanks for making my time here so comfortable. Whilst the procedures weren't pleasant, I would chose to come back to Airedale General Hospital and I know I would be in safe hands if I were ever to need these procedures again.
