"The nurses gave me five star treatment!"

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

What I liked

When I was finally treated after waiting for several hours in A&E, the staff were fantastic! I cannot tell you how brilliant the nurse who finally saw me was. Totally focused on my comfort and well being and I was very impressed. The nurse was very efficient and obviously pushed for a lot of the other staff to also take an interest in my state at the time.

Not only this but when taken up to my bed for the night, all the nurses were wonderful! I was very well cared for and felt like I was their number one priority at the time!

When I went back for my cast to be changed, yet again all the staff were lovely and took a genuine interest in my well being. I was mostly impressed by these nurses as they made me feel really cared for in a potentially intimidating environment.

What could be improved

Unfortunately I spent a number of hours waiting in A&E for orthopaedics to see to me even though I had brought with me an X-ray of my shattered wrist. During this time the nurses on duty didnt seem to take an interest in the fact I was bleeding all down my side from cuts and covered in mud from my accident. In fact it took a large amount of persistence for somebody to give me a wetwipe to clean myself up.

We were pleased to learn of your positive experience in terms of Orthopaedics but were also concerned in respect of the lack of care afforded to you by nurses in the Emergency Department. Your comments have been shared with the Senior Clinical Nurse (Modern Matron) and Operations Manager for the Emergency Department so that staff have the opportunity to reflect on the comments you have made. Similarly the detail of your posting has also been highlighted to staff in Orthopaedics so that they are aware of your gratitude. If you wanted to give more detailed feedback then please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) via pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk but please mention that you posted on the NHS Choices website if you do make contact. We hope that you are making a good recovery following your accident.
