"Care for an injured finger at A&E"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

I went to A&E with my partner after he had injured his finger. We were seen within minutes of entering the department and even the member of staff was impressed. However, the worker mentioned that he was to keep his arm elevated, mentioned that a sling would help but then made the judgement that he "would not use it anyway" and sent us on our way.

I felt that this was an unfair judgement, the sling should have been offered regardless of the staff 's personal judgement.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback about care your partner received at our Emergency Department recently. I’m pleased to hear your partner received such timely care.

You have raised some concerns however, regarding values and behaviours, which I will raise with colleagues in the department as such judgements should not be made.

If you wish to discuss your concerns further, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service team on 0800 183 0204.
