"Unbelievably poor communication"

About: Wexham Park Hospital / Maternity

I moved from Buckinghamshire to Berkshire in April this year.. I changed doctors surgeries straight away and was told the wait to see a midwife would be in June and I needed to contact the hospital to be seen by the community midwives. Done exactly that, only to be spoken to like I’m an idiot by the receptionist staff who said my surgery needed to deal with it. Arranged a phone call with a midwife at my surgery who said she had spoken to the hospital and the should be in touch within a week, if not then to call them and chase them up. That’s exactly wha happened, I got through to a community midwife who again spoke to me like I had no idea what I was talking about and said your surgery had to deal with this. So again went back to my surgery and made an appointment for June. During this period I still had appointments and scans at Wycombe hospital and being a “High risk” pregnancy, my consultant advised me to keep coming to Wycombe until wexham sort themselves out. So for the last two months I’ve been travelling 40 mins back and forth just to get seen by someone. I finally saw a midwife at my surgery in June who said I didn’t need this appointment and needed a booking appointment and rang the hospital and made one within minutes. Why couldn’t this be done straight away? Finally had my appointment with a community midwife who was lovely. I then saw a doctor in clinic today as there isn’t any consultant appointments available. I’m now 36 weeks pregnant , I’ve been strongly advised by my consultant to have a c section because of complications in my previous pregnancy and birth. This doctor I saw did nothing but make me feel uneasy, complained that I my bmi was high ( which is the first time I’ve even heard of it from anyone), complained my iron was really low, which if she bothered to look through my notes would know my iron has always been low, complained because I should have seen someone sooner, which I explained no one could be bothered to make me an appointment, the pushed the idea of having a natural birth on me and wrote in my notes that I have to have a natural birth and not a c section. My husband came with me to this appointment and he tried to speak to the doctor about my previous birth and got completely ignored by her. I’m beyond frustrated at the way I’ve been handled by the trust,( not all members just a few) the last thing a pregnant woman needs is to be stressed out and not have any idea what is happening with her pregnancy let alone who and where to contact if anything was to happen or go into labour. There needs to be a different method of patients transferring and staff that have contact with patients really need to learn basic manners. I’ve heard so many good things about wexham maternity, it’s a shame coming from a medical background myself I complete disagree. If you’re thinking of transferring to this trust my advice is not to, or do it when you’re very early on. Very very disappointed.
