Following a review of my fathers’ medication it became quite apparent to the doctor that he was almost completely deaf. Now, I’m well aware of this fact and have, in fact, been trying to get him to get his ears tested for about five years in the hope that something can be done to help with this situation.
The problem is made worse because he is suffering from the early stages of dementia and he is quite determined that he can hear perfectly well.
Following receipt of an appointment to see the audiologists for tests, it was they who recommended that he sees his GP to get his ears checked.
This he did, only to be told that this surgery, in their nice new building, will no longer clean out his ears. He will have to pay around £70.00 for the privilege of getting this done at an alternative location which is yet to be confirmed.
As I said, he suffers with dementia and, following the ‘help’ from this surgery he’s now decided that he can’t be bothered to get them cleaned and the appointment at the audiologists should be cancelled. Five years of trying is now back to square one!!
Once upon a time this surgery operated from a small facility in Danbury and there was never any problems with getting appointments, seeing a regular doctor or getting small procedures completed.
Now, it seems that the only thing these people are interested in are the shareholders!!
I have booked an appointment to have my ears cleaned at my surgery without any problems at all. Oh, I live 15miles away.
I'll spend more time helping my mother cope with the ongoing situation and try to persuade my father to get something done.
To conclude the service at this practice is absolutely appalling and there seems to be no consideration given to the patient at all.
