"mainly good, but...."

About: Royal Derby Hospital / Breast surgery

Very anxious about my appointment at the breast clinic, which did not get off to a good start. I found my way through the hospital having been dropped off at the main entrance, and had to wait in a dark unlit corridor for someone to come and unlock the door. The first waiting room had about six chaps mostly in “manspreading” mode watching a tv programme which involved much shouting and accounts of violent attacks. There were plenty of Top Gear magazines.I wondered if I was in the right clinic. Feeling uneasy, I asked the receptionist if there was somewhere else to sit. She said no, and whilst I was considering moving a chair myself to a quieter position, my name was called. As the tv was on loud I did not hear, but I was the only woman in the waiting area anyway. In the second waiting room men are not allowed but the tv was tuned to Dave, whose target viewer is male, showing a programme involving beefy chaps in a truck. Nobody watched it, all too anxious. What is going on here, breast clinic? Turn off the tv, have some spa-style music softly playing. Those male hangers-on will find somewhere else to wait, leaving the waiting area to be a calm and unthreatening place for your women patients it is intended for.I picked up a leaflet called “Your view matters” but the online link for patient feedback it gives is no longer operating. In spite of all this the clinic staff are all perfectly polite, pleasant and professional and the clinic system seems to be efficient, so no worries there, which is the main thing really.
