"Wish I'd had more information along with my diagnosis"

I have osteoparosis and went to Mount Gould for a check up. The care has been good, but I found it really difficult when they first told me what I had. They just said, “you have osteoparosis”, but they don’t tell you what that means, what’s going to happen, or how you should look after yourself. I had to search around on the net, to try and work out what it all meant. When they said I was ill, I had no idea if I would die or anything. From the net, I found out that I needed to be careful of falls. Why couldn’t the nurse or doctor tell you that? I just think a bit of information on how to look after myself would have helped.

Thank you for posting your story about your experiences at your appointment, we very much welcome your comments and I think you have highlighted an area of our service that we could do better at! Patient information and availability is very important, interestingly we have lots of information for patients on our website at www.sentinelhealthcare.co.uk/useful-links, there is an area that has links to the National Osteoporosis Society (http://www.nos.org.uk/). I believe we need to work on how we make patients aware of this and also support how they access the information. Some of our clinicians already hand out information to patients about their condition.
