I would like to compliment the care and attention that my son's partner received while in the care of the maternity unit at Wishaw General Hospital giving birth to their daughter. The midwives and staff that attended to her were outstanding, they showed a genuine care and concern for both her and the baby as well as my son.
However when myself and husband came to visit our first grandchild a few hours later we were approached by a midwife who spoke to us in a rather unpleasant and demeaning way. We were told that it was only Grandparents that were permitted to visit the labour ward, even when we explained we were grandparents her attitude and tone towards us was totally unacceptable. As parents and grandparents this was obviously a very anxious and stressful time for us, the way in which we were treated by this particular staff member slightly darkened what should always be a very happy and special moment.
